QuestGlass Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what QuestGlass collects, why we use it, how it is shared, and what controls you have. We do not sell your personal information. EEA, EU, and UK users should also read the GDPR Privacy Notice. Turkey users should also read the KVKK Privacy Notice for controller, legal basis, recipient group, rights, and international-transfer details.
- Location access is permission-based
- Private quests remain limited to you and invited members
- You can control discovery, activity status, and message requests
- EEA, EU, and UK users have GDPR/UK GDPR rights described in the GDPR notice
1. Data we collect
- Account data such as email address, authentication provider, email verification status, username, display name, full date of birth stored in the private profile for age verification, and account settings.
- Profile data such as photo, bio, languages, interests, traveler style, travel dates, role, notes, privacy choices, and activity status settings.
- Content you create such as messages, reactions, photos, quests, meetup plans, route notes, reports, shared media, and support requests.
- Location and route data when you grant permission or choose a location, including map interactions needed to show nearby places, routes, and quests.
- Device, security, and usage data such as IP address, browser or device information, logs, crash details, rate limits, abuse signals, and staff-access audit events.
2. How we use data
- Create and secure accounts, verify email addresses, and prevent unauthorized access.
- Operate profiles, search, connection requests, chats, notes, quests, reports, media uploads, route planning, and meetup features.
- Show user-controlled profile fields, activity status, read receipts, message requests, and discovery settings.
- Moderate content, investigate abuse, enforce rules, prevent spam, respond to safety reports, and protect users.
- Maintain, debug, improve, and measure the performance and reliability of the service.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to valid legal requests.
3. EEA, EU, and UK legal bases
For EEA, EU, and UK users, account and core app processing generally relies on contract necessity; safety, security, fraud prevention, moderation, debugging, service improvement, and legal claims generally rely on legitimate interests or legal obligations; optional GPS sharing, marketing, and non-essential cookies rely on consent where required. Chat translation is not offered in this release. The dedicated GDPR notice gives more detail.
4. Location data
Location access is optional and controlled by your browser or device. If you deny location permission, you can still type a starting area or use other app features. If you share temporary location in chat, it is visible to the relevant conversation participants for the feature duration shown in the app.
5. Chats, photos, and shared content
Private messages and shared media are visible to the people in the relevant conversation and may be available to authorized support and safety staff or service providers when needed for safety, abuse investigation, security, support, or legal compliance. We do not use private chats to target advertising.
5A. Profile-photo face-presence check
During account setup, QuestGlass requires a profile photo containing one clear human face. The app performs an automated face-presence check locally on your device or in your browser before upload. It checks only whether one sufficiently visible face is present. It does not identify who you are, compare your face with another person, create or retain a biometric face template, or send the rejected image to QuestGlass. Only the approved cropped profile photo is uploaded through the normal profile-photo process; the account stores a timestamp confirming that the local check passed.
6. How we share data
- With other users according to your actions and privacy settings, such as profile visibility, messages, quests, reports, notes, and meetups.
- With service providers that help us run authentication, hosting, media storage, maps, notifications, email, security, analytics, and support tools.
- With moderators, authorized staff, law enforcement, courts, or safety partners when required by law or reasonably needed to protect people, rights, property, or the service.
- As part of a merger, financing, acquisition, or asset transfer, subject to continued protection of personal data.
7. Cookies and local storage
The website uses cookies, local storage, or similar browser storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, protect the service, and run core features. Non-essential analytics, advertising, or marketing storage remains off until a user gives a clear opt-in where required. We do not sell personal information or use private chat content for targeted advertising.
8. Retention
We keep account, profile, chat, quest, media, report, and log data for as long as needed to provide the service, keep users safe, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce rules, and maintain backups. When you delete a post, its live post photos are queued for immediate removal from object storage. Deleted content may remain only in time-limited backups or restricted safety, audit, dispute, or legal-hold records where required.
9. Your choices and rights
- Use Settings to control discovery, activity status, read receipts, connection requests, and message requests.
- Use your device or browser settings to control location, notifications, camera, and photo access.
- Request access, correction, deletion, export, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or human review of qualifying automated decisions where those rights apply.
- Residents of regions with privacy laws, including the EEA, UK, Turkey, and California, may have additional rights under local law.
10. International processing
QuestGlass and its service providers may process data in the United States, Turkey, the European Economic Area, or other countries where infrastructure or support is located. Service providers may include Firebase/Google, Cloudflare, Expo, Apple, Google Play, map/search providers, email providers, payment providers if paid features are introduced, and media moderation vendors. Chat translation is not offered in this release. Contact support@questglass.com to request current information about provider locations and the transfer mechanism used where one is required.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including authentication, email verification, access controls, staff-access auditing, and storage protections. No internet service is completely secure, so you should protect your account and report suspicious activity.
12. Children
QuestGlass is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly allow children to create accounts. If you believe a minor is using the service, contact us so we can review and take action.
